This man (like so many other people) has lost everything important to him because of the climate catastrophe. The forest has died … his home has been destroyed … and his family is buried on the hill behind him. Too many human beings have behaved (for too many decades) as if the natural world was simply on earth to serve human beings. Now, and well into the future, our selfish disregard for the needs of the natural world has and will cost us everything that we hold dear. That is what this body of work … these sculptures … is all about.

This sculpture is 10in high x 11.25 in wide 11.25 xin deep.

It is made of wood, paper mache & pewter. It is painted red & black (red symbolizing heat, black symbolizing death). It includes a piece of coal, representing the cause of the calamity. Note that the man is sitting on that piece of coal.

I am not an optimist. I do not believe that humankind will solve this problem in time. To do so would require the climbing two preverbal mountains by decision makers all over the world.

The first mountain is finding the wisdom to accept the teachings of Bill McKibben and other environmentalists.

The second peak is to ACT, decisively, effectively ... and to do it NOW. That is, undertake LARGE SCALE, WORLDWIDE activities to end the burning of coal by human beings. Yes, please do something about burning other fossil fuels too, but coal is the monster.
