Cylindrical Geoform in Decline; Study

$450.00

This small sculpture was the first piece made in series of sculptures that I now call my "Perfection is Elusive” series. It heralded two advances in my thinking about the sculptures I was making in the early 1970’s. This piece, and the pieces that followed it in this series, begin with a pure geometric form. That form is then “interrupted” ….. , that is, an irregular shape (a gash, if you will) dramatically “interrupts” the pure form. The “gash” is always made of a different material than the pure geometric form.

In this sculpture, the pure form is made of steel, and the interruption is made of lead. The color contrast between the pure form and the interruption is an important design element in this series.

Note that this piece was the first where I hammered the metal inside the interruption … yielding texture in the interior of the sculpture; in contrast to the smooth surface of the exterior of the piece.

This sculpture, a pure geometric form, "interrupted” by a huge gash, is a tangible representation of my thoughts regarding the near perfections of earth and of humankind, and the powerful enemies of perfection.

This piece is 7in high x 3.5in in diameter.

It ships FREE to a USA address.
